My Gardening Essentials 🪴
Hazels Edit #1
Welcome to the first instalment of The Hazel Edit - my weekly musings, thoughts and recommendations. Some weeks you’ll find me talking all things gardening and floristry, while other weeks we will be delving deep into my favourite makeup products, fashion trends and travel destinations.
This will be a real mix of my very favourite things and the hidden secrets I’ve learned along the way… starting off with my Gardening Essentials: A quick guide to what every gardener needs.
Secateurs
I have loads of these! They all do different things - some might be for tougher-to-cut stems, some might be for more fragile plants. But these are an absolute must!
My current favourite are these Niwaki GR Pro Secateurs
A Micro Spade
I actually reach for these more than anything else. Planting, weeding, you name it - I’m reaching for it. They’re more handy than you’d expect.
Can you tell Niwaki is one of my favourite brands? Their Small Golden Spade is the perfect addition to your shed.
A Knee Pad
Slightly less glamorous but equally essential, a knee pad. Let’s be honest, I’m in my 40’s, I’m not kneeling down on gravel - and neither should you. Protect your body and get a knee pad.
For a kneeling pad, try this Niwaki Kneeler
If you’re looking for something that’s easier to move around in, why not try these Kneelo Knee Pads which are also so handy!
Spades
The muscle of the garden - a good quality spade. Really great for digging holes and removing root systems. It’s so worth investing in good quality tools for your garden.
The clue is in the title - the Root Slayer is an essential to any gardeners toolkit.
Boots
I told you it wouldn’t be long until I was talking about fashion. I couldn’t do a gardening essentials without mention boots. For a long time I used to garden in sliders or trainers but no, boots are a MUST to stay comfortable and protected.
Some of my absolute favourites are my tried and true Blundstone's. These are comfortable, practical and of course, they look great too!
Gloves
Last but no means least - gloves! It’s not something I use to much in the studio but in the garden, they are an absolute life saver… particularly against the pesky thorns of a Rose Bush.
I’m currently using these Niwaki Gardening Gloves - which make gardening so much easier!
